The Hovawart is a rare German breed dating back to roughly the 1200's. It was commonly used as a German Farm/Guard dog and is still considered quite rare with less than a few hundred in North America. In modern times the Hovawart excels at tracking and Search and Rescue as well as detection work. They also compete in Schutzhund and other dog sports. Very Loyal to and protective of their family.
